Evidencia electroforética para especiación entre poblaciones del sapo Bufo valliceps Wiegmann

Variation in proteins from the sera of three populations of the toad Bufo valliceps Wiegmann is examined by use of cellulose polyacetate electrophoresis, and the d´fferences found are compared to ( l) superficial differences in morphology, (2) differences in toad habitats as a reflection of the biotic provinces in which the toads live, and ( 3) the distances which separate the three populations. It is suggested 34 that speciation through distance instead of through isolation by geographic barriers may be occurring. Also suggestions are made for future research concerning this phenomenon.
