Abstract

This paper presents results which further clarify morphological and thermodynamical aspects of the interstellar medium in the peripheric regions of the Galaxy. It is composed of (l) a part of theoretical analysis, in which a hierarchical structure of the gas, in three phases of different temperatures and densitics, is postulated; and (2) a mainly observational part in which the results of A 21 cm observations are presented showing and agreement with theoretical results. The picture proposed by this study shows the peripheric galactic gas conformed in nebular structures which rotate with the Galaxy and, given their presumably big distances, show high values of the radial velocities. They are interpreted as representative of two phases in pressure, thermal and ionization equilibrium between them and with a third phase, "internebular", at a temperature higher than 20000 K
