Abstract

The study referred to in this article focuses on the analysis of gender expectations related to motherhood. It identifies the sociocultural factors involved in the collective imaginary, where the binomial between being a woman and being a mother is manifested, thus urging in conservative societies the mandate to motherhood exclusively in the female sex. In view of this construction of the maternal role, the expectations, foundational myths and stereotypes of the sex-gender system are related, which lead to the systematic violation, persecution and criminalization of women and mothers in Salvadoran society, Therefore, it is necessary to propose good practices that, as a tool, contribute to the protection and defense of the human rights for Salvadoran women and pregnant Salvadoran mothers, and through positive practices, achieve a social change that implies the analysis and unlearning of myths, stereotypes, roles, among other factors and socio-cultural conditioning factors that subordinate the feminine and effeminate, historically present in the collective imagination; given that the analysis of realities and interpretations of them in a different way as alternatives to androcentric thinking has been and continues to be a constant challenge, such as unlearning sexist thoughts, actions and attitudes.
