Abstract

Goals. Perform a bibliographic review to answer the question: Is there a difference between the Baccetti’s and the Fishman’s carpal cervical vertebrae evaluation methods to determine the maximum peak of human growth? - Materials and methods. A bibliographic search was conducted using two databases (PubMed, and SciELO). The aim was to identify studies, between 2000 and 2020, that compared both evaluation methods for determining the human growth peak. In the first selection stage, 248 articles were obtained from which eight articles were used for final review.  - Results. Of the eight evaluated studies, six presented a high correlation between the examined methods and only two showed a moderately positive correlation.  - Conclusions. There is a correlation between the two evaluation methods for the identification of the maximum human growth peak. Assessment of vertebral age in lateral skull radiographs using the Baccetti method is a statistically reliable, valid and clinically useful technique , since it reduces the need for radiographic overexposure as when using carpal evaluation
