Injected resin technique in a patient psycho-socially affected by the presence of diastema: A case report

Introduction: usually, the treatments used for diastema closure are high-cost, highly invasive and can take a lot of time to be done, in recent years the injected resin technique has begun to be used as a low-cost, fast making and significantly less invasive alternative for dental tissues, compared with conventional treatments. Objective: to present a case report about the use of the injected resin technique as an alternative to conventional treatments for diastema closure in a patient with probable psychosocial involvement due to her aesthetic condition. Case report: a 29-year-old female patient, who attends the Faculty of Dentistry of “Universidad de El Salvador”, requesting a treatment for the closure of a diastema in the upper-front sector that causes discomfort to smile, the PIDAQ index was used to know the psychosocial involvement due to the aesthetic problem in the patient, also injected resin veneers were chosen as a treatment for the diastema. Results: the veneer treatment was completed and in the clinical evaluation in 2 weeks the PIDAQ index was used again, finding an improvement in the patient’s confidence when smiling and satisfaction with the shape of her teeth. Conclusion: the treatment for the closure of the diastema increased the confidence when smiling, the use of the injected resin technique is an option that allows fast results, low cost and less invasive for dental tissues compared to conventional alternatives, which is relevant for the preservation of healthy tissue
