Abstract

Two-dimensional Supersonic Shear Wave Elastography (2D-SWE SSI) is a diagnostic technique that uses a stateof- the-art ultrasound scanner that can qualitatively (using a color scale) and quantitatively (in kilopascals or meters/ second) assess the stiffness of different tissues. This technology is combined with UGAP (Ultrasound Guided Attenuation Parameter), an index used to accurately assess the level of hepatic steatosis (fatty liver). This combination is a non-invasive tool that uses ultrasound to determine the attenuation of its waves as they pass through the liver. The fat accumulated in the liver influences the acoustic properties of liver tissue, producing greater attenuation of ultrasound waves the greater the problem. This technology measures and assesses the amount of fat present in the liver and is vitally important after treatment to measure (quantify) the patient’s progress or response to appropriate and timely treatment
