Code of Ethics

This code of ethics is consistent with Committee on Publication Ethics, COPE's criteria to which it adheres. and in line with the provisions of the Organic Law of the Universidad de El Salvador.

Introduction

Chapter I: Purpose and reason for this code of ethics

Art. 1 The purpose of this code of ethics is to ensure that the operation of the Revista Humanidades adheres to the highest ethical ideals and contributes high-quality academic production to the Faculty of Sciences and Humanities.

The Revista Humanidades is committed to the production and dissemination of knowledge relevant to the Humanities and Social Sciences, which should be applicable in the university and in Salvadoran society.

Due to the nature of the Revista Humanidades, it is committed to:

  • The conservation, promotion and dissemination of art, humanities and social sciences.
  • Respond to the training needs of students in the Faculty of Sciences and Humanities.
  • Contribute to teaching work in the areas of Humanities and Social Sciences.
  • Promote the ideal of Central American unity.
  • Promote ecological awareness, sustainability, and the protection of natural resources.
  • Promote national, Central American, and Latin American identity.
  • Promote patriotic sentiment, love for the nation, and a spirit of service to the Republic of El Salvador.
  • Promote historical, sociological, philosophical, artistic, linguistic, literary, psychological, and pedagogical research.
  • Promote respect for human rights and diversity.

Chapter II: Members and functions of the Humanities Journal

Art. 2 The Humanidades journal is made up of three sectors that work together to achieve the journal's objectives and goals: Editorial team, editorial board, and editorial committee.

Art. 3 The editorial team is made up of a director, an editor, a proofreader, a designer, and a library manager.

Art. 4 The editorial board is composed of university authorities, specifically: the rector, administrative vice-rector, academic vice-rector of the university; the dean and vice-dean of the Faculty of Sciences and Humanities; and the members appointed by the Board of Directors of the Faculty of Sciences and Humanities.

Art. 5 The Editorial Committee is made up of national and foreign specialists from various areas of the Social Sciences and Humanities.

Chapter III: General Principles of the Members of the Board, Committee and Editorial Team

Art. 6 Persons involved in the work of the Revista Humanidades must possess impeccable morality, a commitment to institutionality and a sense of service to the University and the country.

Art. 7 The designation of functions is made following the principles of legality, transparency, meritocracy and due process.

Art. 8 The members of the committee, board and editorial team must have a high-level academic profile.

Art. 9. Appointments to positions are based on suitability, ability, and academic reputation. No appointment may be made based on personal or political motivations, or on payment of electoral favors. Nor may individuals with a high academic profile and suitability be denied participation for reasons of gender, religious affiliation, race, social status, or political affiliation.

Art. 10 The academic nature of the Revista Humanidades requires that it be guided by the principle of non-authority, which contributes to the advancement of knowledge.

Art. 11 The fact that the journal Humanidades belongs to the University of El Salvador makes it the heir to all the principles, mission and vision established by the Universidad de El Salvador.

Art. 12 Dissent, debate, discussion and objection are guaranteed as part of the natural functioning of the academic work of the Humanities journal.

Art. 13 Every decision must be made with the maximum benefit for the institution, the country and the advancement of knowledge.

Chapter IV: Relations between the members of the Revista Humanidades

Art. 14 Interactions between members of the Revista Humanidades will be in accordance with Salvadoran idiosyncrasies, the laws of the Republic of El Salvador, and university legislation.

Article 15 Relations between members of the journal Humanidades will be conducted with respect and diplomacy. Arguments based on authority are not acceptable.

Art. 16 The entire work environment corresponding to the Humanities journal must be free from discrimination, influence peddling, electoral interests, and pressures unrelated to academic excellence.

Art. 17 Independence of judgment, freedom of thought and diversity of perspectives are guaranteed.

Chapter VI: Duties and tasks of the members of the Revista Humanidades

Art. 18 Duties and functions of the members of the editorial board:

  • Ensure compliance with all articles of this code.
  • Constantly update the publication guidelines.
  • Ensure the honesty, legality, and transparency of all processes involved in the operation of the Revista Humanidades.

Art. 19 Duties and functions of editors:

  • Promote the highest academic and research requirements and levels.
  • Ensure compliance with the journal's editorial guidelines, originality, and relevance of the articles.
  • Certify that the timeframes and procedures for article review, as well as their layout, review, and correction, are met.
  • Comply with the periodicity of the magazine.
  • Ensure the confidentiality of articles, as well as the review and correction processes.
  • Inform authors of the editorial processes and stages of submitted articles.
  • Evaluate articles strictly based on their content, without allowing extraneous elements to influence the evaluation.
  • An article may not be rejected for political, gender, religious, ethnic or social reasons.
  • Plagiarism is not acceptable; editors are required to thoroughly search for plagiarism in articles.

Art. 20 Duties of authors:

  • Authors must submit a sworn statement on the originality of their articles.
  • Authors must follow the guidelines and editorial policy of the Revista Humanidades.
  • Articles that preach against the principles established in this code are not accepted.
  • Any author who agrees to publish submit your manuscript in the Revista Humanidades must refrain from submitting their article to other journals, in order to avoid duplication.
  • The texts must be unpublished.
  • The authors remain the owners of their works, granting only the distribution rights to Minerva Magazine under the standards of the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0).
  • Each author must register their ORCID, RCID, ScopusID, ResearcherID, and other numbers to avoid errors and confusion in author names when identifying their scientific work and to clearly distinguish them.
  • Authors are required to acknowledge all sources used in the preparation of their article.
  • Authors are required to respect the intellectual property of any source, tool, or material used in their research.
  • Authors are obliged to acknowledge their collaborators.
  • It is the responsibility of each author to point out any errors found in the layout and design of their article, as well as to promptly notify the editorial board.
