Minimum wage and cost of living in El Salvador 2001-2018

The implementation of the minimum wage in the country is one of the problems that has generated more discussion in the last years. The low increase to the rate produces that diverse social factors are questioned about which variables are analyzed at the moment of implementing it, above all if the life cost does not reach to be covered by itself. The following pages address the issue taking into account the diverse conceptions about salary, the regulation of it through the Labour Code and an analysis about the increases to the same in the last 17 years in El Salvador. In this way, it can be understood the issue from a global perspective and based in the costs of the main products of the basic shopping basket.
