Ethical Code

The Jiboa Journal is guided by the academic principles established by the University of El Salvador, as established in Article 3 of its Organic Law, which include:

  1. Preserving, promoting, and disseminating science, art, and culture.
  2. Training professionals who are morally and intellectually prepared to carry out their roles in society, integrating teaching, research, and social projection functions.
  3. Conducting philosophical, scientific, artistic, and technological research of a universal nature, primarily focused on Salvadoran and Central American realities.
  4. Promoting, with a social-humanistic approach, the comprehensive formation of students.
  5. Contributing to the strengthening of national identity and the development of a distinct culture, in service of peace and freedom.
  6. Promoting sustainability and the protection of natural resources and the environment.
  7. Fostering among students the ideal of unity among Central American nations.

Mission: The University of El Salvador is a public and autonomous higher education institution, scientific, critical, participatory, democratic, and committed to comprehensive national development. It aims to form professionals of high human, scientific, and technological quality, with a focus on the environment and life in all their forms and manifestations, as well as on the production and contextual application of knowledge through the integrated practice of teaching, research, and social projection.

Vision: To be the public and autonomous university that leads higher education in the country, with national and international educational leadership. Its innovative training of entrepreneurial professionals of the highest quality, along with the production of scientific and technological knowledge, enables it to be a democratic and critical actor in socio-educational changes, leading to the construction of a developed, just, educated, sustainable, scientific, and secure society.

The Code of Ethics of the University of El Salvador, in Article 5, establishes the ethical values that should govern the conduct of those who are part of the university community. These values are:

Jiboa Journal, as an academic-scientific publication of the Paracentral Multidisciplinary Faculty of the University of El Salvador, adopts and promotes ethical principles during all stages of the editorial process. These principles are based on the guidelines established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), including its Code of Conduct and Core Practices, as well as on the good practices recommended by the Council of Science Editors (CSE).

The ethical guidelines that govern the participation of the different authors involved in the publication process are established below:

For authors:

  • Manuscripts submitted must be original, unpublished and must not be under simultaneous evaluation in another journal or editorial bodies.
  • Authors must make sure to respect the rules of intellectual property and copyrights, conforming to the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International License (CC BY-NC 4.0).
  • All sources used must be duly acknowledged by means of citations and references, following the Chicago citation style (16th edition), in order to avoid plagiarism and self-plagiarism.
  • In case an article has been prepared by several authors, it must be guaranteed that all of them have actively participated in the research, writing or revision of the manuscript.
  • If errors or inaccuracies are detected in the content submitted, whether conceptual or in the data presented, they should be immediately communicated to the editorial team for correction or retraction, if necessary.
  • Duplicate or redundant submission of manuscripts should be avoided, as well as manipulation or falsification of data or results.

For Reviewers:

  • By agreeing to participate in the review process, reviewers declare that they possess the necessary expertise in the subject area of the manuscript.
  • Reviewers must strictly respect the confidentiality of the manuscript, refraining from using any information for personal or third party benefit.
  • Comments and observations should be objective, respectful and focused on improving the scientific quality of the article.
  • Reviewers should refrain from participating in the process if there is a conflict of interest that could compromise their impartiality.
  • In compliance with the double-blind peer review model, reviewers should not know the identity of the authors or other reviewers.

For Editors:

  • The editorial team must ensure transparency and fairness in the review, editing and publication process.
  • They are responsible for promoting the dissemination of each published issue through institutional repositories, scientific networks, specialized databases and relevant digital media.
  • They must maintain clear and timely communication with authors, reviewers and other collaborators of the journal.
  • The editorial calendar must be respected, complying with the established times for each phase of the process.
  • Articles should be evaluated with objective criteria, without favoritism or discrimination towards any author or institution.
  • The confidentiality of all manuscripts received must be safeguarded, avoiding any type of leakage or improper use of the information.
  • The editors will ensure compliance with the editorial policies and guidelines established by the journal.
