The various regions in Mexico have exhibited a series of disparities in terms of development, resulting in some areas being more advantaged than others. These disparities manifest in better economic and social conditions, investment projects, and the presence of national and international companies. Such factors are reflected in well-paid employment opportunities, medium- and long-term educational prospects, humanized spaces with modern and efficient urban infrastructure, among other aspects. These developmental conditions contrast with the low levels of development characterizing other regions of the country, such as the South-Southeast Region of Mexico (RSS). Despite its rich biodiversity and cultural diversity, this region faces significant social challenges, including high poverty rates, limited access to well-paid jobs, low educational levels, marked migration patterns, food insecurity, and deficient communication and transportation networks. For this reason, upon taking office as President of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador committed to implementing strategic projects aimed at fostering development in the RSS, particularly the Interoceanic (or Trans-Isthmic) Corridor and the Maya Train. This study provides an analysis of these two major development projects, whose primary objective is to lay the groundwork for this region to achieve solid integration into the national development framework
