Abstract

This cross-sectional, exploratory, descriptive and correlational study aimed to evaluate the psychometric characteristics of the Collett-Lester Fear of Death Scale, in nursing professionals. The sample consisted of 303 participants, of whom 80.9% were women. The total internal reliability was 0.94; by sub-scale, the alpha coefficients are high. The above allows to maintain that the items are homogeneous and that the scale consistently measures the characteristic for which it was designed. The multidimensionality of the scale was reviewed through the factorial analysis of main components with VARIMAX rotation, yielding 4 factors with factor loads >.40 corresponding to the content of the items of the 4 original subscales. Good internal consistency and construct validity were confirmed with significant correlation with the "Fear of death" subscale.
