Abstract

This text will address the way in which the different Californian and foreign social actors had access to land in Alta California, as well as situations about how sociopolitical conditions were generated that contributed to the mobility of the land, actors involved, prices of land, legal framework to promote the alienation of properties, dimensions of the land sold, conflicts in the transactions (which did exist). There will also be space for speeches in favor or against the secularization of the California Franciscan missions, ethnic origin of the owners graced with the purchase or endowment of mission lands. A suggestive situation will be the way in which they tried to finance the defense of Mexican territory against the North American invasion, alienating land to fellow nationals and some foreigners. These aspects stand out as the main elements to be analyzed in the work to be developed. To achieve the above, archival documentation that concentrates land petitions, allegations, laws and judicial resolutions will be reviewed and analyzed, in addition to being supported by bibliography on the subject
