Artisans as architects of the first mutual associations in Mexico

This research contributes to the knowledge, in terms of historiography, about the study of artisans, their struggles, organizations, demands and associative forms, it contains many aspects that can be deepened, considering this topic of utmost importance to understand the dynamics under which these mutual associations were constituted in Mexico in the 19th century. In this paper, through a documentary review, we analyze the situation of artisans as the architects of the first mutual associations in Mexico, who would later take the leadership of the workers' movements thanks to their close connections with the government, all this under the auspices of the liberal ideology. The above, having as antecedent the guilds, which were artisan organizations sponsored by the Spanish crown, where artisans enjoyed prestige and political power, which was fading away when the Mexican nation was created, and the figure of the artisan disappeared legally, although it remained in the public discourse and in the leadership of the organizations
