Abstract

Introduction: The educational environment has a real influence on the results, satisfaction, and quality of residents’ training; therefore, it is important that they are considered during the training process of medical specialists. Among the instruments available for AE measurement, we have the PHEEM (Postgraduate Hospital Educational Environment Measure) survey, which is recognized as a reliable measurement instrument. Objective: This research aims to evaluate the conditions in which the training process of the Residents of the medical specialties of the Hospital Nacional de Santa Ana is developed during the year 2021. Method: Descriptive, Transversal Design with a qualitative approach. The PHEEM instrument was applied to medical residents and a questionnaire was responded to by clinical professors, which were answered voluntarily and anonymously. In addition, the instruments were validated. In the case of the PHEEM survey, the score ranges between 0-160 points, and in the case of clinical professors, four domains were evaluated, which are personal and academic factors of the professor, and personal and academic factors of the student. Results: The PHEEM survey was answered by 66 residents and the score obtained was 75.28 out of 160 possible points. The survey for clinical professors included 16 participants who negatively evaluated aspects such as academic interest, empathy of the student, conditions of physical spaces, and the teaching resources available in the teaching hospital. Conclusions: The research places the teaching hospital as an educational environment with many problems, and its perception by the residents as more negative than positive, which aligns with the perception of the clinical professors, who negatively evaluated the personal and academic factors of the resident, identifying aspects that should be improved
