Abstract

The development of the necessary competences for good academic development has been one of the topics where more attention is paid, since the cognitive part within the learning process is important, however, the training and potentiation of emotional competences that allow to the human being to reach a higher level in their success, not only professional, but also personal.

Within the educational realities, many of the students are not capable of generating adequate study habits, because they do not have good time management and less an adequate organization of activities, these and other deficiencies will result in poor academic performance. Mental health should be a priority within all the environments that surround the human being, in the case of students it is The development of the necessary competences for good academic development has been one of the topics where more attention is paid, since the cognitive part within the learning process is important, however, the training and potentiation of emotional competences that allow to the human being to reach a higher level in their success, not only professional, but also personal.

Mental health should be a priority within all the environments that surround the human being, in the case of students it is essential that the part of autonomy, self-knowledge and above all self-motivation can be promoted, which are relevant aspects that open the emotional intelligence proposed by Daniel Goleman. The main objective of this research is to investigate a little more about the relationship that emotional competencies have in academic performance in students at a higher level, it will be developed in a sample of 64 new students belonging to a class on the subject of general psychology, The statistical method used was carried out with the crossing of data between the Chi square and Lambda, which yielded 58% in favor regarding the influence of emotional intelligence in relation to study habits and techniques, data that present significance. when understanding the importance in the development of emotional competencies in students in this case at a higher level.
