Abstract

The Psychosocial Study of experiences of water insecurity in the home and sense of community in Colima, had the objective of analyzing and identifying the relationship between the variables Sense of community and the experiences of water insecurity in the home; through subcategories of sense of community and variables such as age and gender. For this, a mixed research methodology was improved, with quantitative preponderance in the design, over qualitative methodology. Through the latter it was possible to compare results with units of analysis (expressions, points of view, thoughts and feelings of the participants) favorable to a greater depth of the investigated problem. Most of the research was carried out during 2019, being suspended in 2020, due to a global health situation regarding SARS-CoV-2. The place of study was the Colima Canton, located in the municipality of Suchitoto, department of Cuscatlán, El Salvador, the participants were men and women between the ages of 18 and 86, from the Potreritos and Canaán hamlets, belonging to Colima.

The results point to a negative connection between variables of sense of community (specifically shared emotional connection) and experiences of water insecurity in the home, without a high influence on variables such as gender, and with no influence on variable age. The foregoing, in agreement with other studies, highlights the existence of affective ties, identity and belonging, as psychological and psycho-social factors of great incidence in the perception of experiences of insecurity related to water in the home.
