Definition of the journal

The journal “La Universidad”, published by La Universidad de El Salvador, it is an organ multidisciplinary scientific and socio-cultural publication, founded in 1875 under the direction of Dr. Esteban Castro. The creation of this journal responded to La Universidad de El Salvador’s need to disseminate the scientific work of its academic community, as well as that of regional intellectuals and artists, establishing itself as the first editorial publication in the country.

Objectives

• To publish high-quality scientific articles, essays, and reviews that serve as a basis for academic and critical discussion on Salvadoran, Central American, and Hispanic American realities.
• To establish a network of national and international intellectuals who disseminate their research through the publications of La Universidad journal.
• To foster reciprocal collaboration between the University of El Salvador and the national and international intellectual community in order to democratize the knowledge generated by our journal.

Scope

The journal "La Universidad" is a space for the socialization of knowledge that supports the paradigm of Open Science, with the purpose of disseminating scientific knowledge in a holistic manner due to its multidisciplinary nature. It publishes national and international authors and receives manuscripts in Spanish, English and Portuguese with the purpose of offering the academic community the scientific production and conceptual tools for the decoding of the national and world reality.

Consequently, the journal offers different topics, products of institutional or personal research or workshops given in the Schools or Faculties of the University of El Salvador. This knowledge is condensed in discourses whose structures respond to scientific articles, review articles, essays or reviews. Through this publication, the journal seeks to acknowledger and promote the research efforts of faculty members and members of the national and international academic community.

In this sense, the journal aims to be an instrument of consultation for students, a means of publication for teachers and researchers and a point of enunciation of knowledge that invites intellectual dialogue and rational criticism of the academy. These ideals are faithful to the lines of publication, the scientific quality of the published works and the academic alliances that are established through the dissemination of the scientific and literary work of "La Universidad" Journal.

Periodicity

The periodicity of "La Universidad" Journal is quarterly, meaning it is published in four issues per year: January-March; April-June; July-September; October-December, each one of them composed of at least 5 articles.

Types of publication

The textual typologies that the journal "La Universidad" publishes, in accordance with its multidisciplinary approach, are the following:

Scientific articles: these texts are products of research, in their development the results are shown. Their structure is as follows: title in Spanish, title in English, author's data, abstract in Spanish, keywords in Spanish, keywords in English, introduction, objective, methodology, results and discussion, conclusions. Review articles: it is a detailed, selective and critical study that integrates the essential information in a unitary and overall perspective. It is a type of scientific article that, without being original, compiles the most relevant information on a specific topic. Its structure is as follows: title in Spanish, title in English, author's data, summary in spanish, keywords in Spanish, keywords in English, introduction, theoretical foundation, method, document location, participants, inclusion and exclusion criteria, data collection, data analysis, interpretation, critical evaluation, author's contribution, conclusions and references. Scientific essays: it is a relatively brief writing, dedicated to a specific topic that involves its deepening, discernment, and synthesis, where the author expresses his idea or point of view, based on objective information previously collected and presented. Its structure is as follows: title in Spanish, title in English, author's data, summary in Spanish, keywords in Spanish, key words in English, introduction, development, conclusive synthesis and references. Book reviews: these are texts that offer a synthesis of books, briefly showing core conceptual elements for understanding the text.
