Abstract

This text presents a review of the bacteriological study Antimicrobial Sensitivity of Shigella in El Salvador 2001/2002 (Morán y Achí, 2003), conducted with scientific rigor in the early twenty-first century but, due to the limited availability of national scientific journals at that time, not disseminated through formal academic channels. Its recent inclusion in the institutional repository makes it possible to revisit the study as a starting point for reflecting on the importance of scientific communication as an essential stage of the research process. This review argues that the absence of publication restricts the social and academic impact of knowledge and highlights the role of university journals and open access as key means for preserving, validating, and projecting scientific results. In this sense, the experience of a study that remained unpublished for more than two decades serves as an example that encourages the promotion of a publication culture among researchers and strengthens the visibility of the science produced within Salvadoran universities.
