Abstract

Introduction: this essay analyzes the problem of violence in the thought of Karl Marx and Slavoj Žižek. Objective: to explain the relationship between the concepts of violence and emancipation in both philosophers. Methodology: this is a qualitative interpretative study based on the review and analysis of primary sources. Results and discussion: the analysis shows that, from his earliest writings, Marx develops a critique of capitalist society as inherently violent, which leads him to recognize, in an apparently paradoxical way, the necessity of revolutionary violence. The essay clarifies the distinction between these two forms of violence through the theoretical contributions of both Marx and the Slovenian philosopher Slavoj Žižek. Conclusion: it is concluded that there is no cult of violence in these thinkers, but rather a coherent theory of emancipation grounded in a profound ontological analysis.
