Code of ethics

La Universidad Journal is guided by the academic purposes of La Universidad de El Salvador as established in Art. 3 of the Organic Law:

• To preserve, promote and disseminate science, art and culture.


• To train morally and intellectually qualified professionals to play their corresponding role in society, integrating the functions of teaching, research and social projection.


• To conduct philosophical research, scientific, artistic and technological research of universal character, mainly on the Salvadoran and Central American reality.


• To promote, with a social-humanistic sense, the integral formation of the student.


• To contribute to the strengthening of the national identity and the development of its own culture, at the service of peace and freedom.


• Promote sustainability and the protection of natural resources and the environment.


• To foster among its students the ideal of unity of the Central American peoples.

In addition, "La Universidad" Journal, joins the ethical criteria infused by the regulation published by COPE https://publicationethics.org/core-practices  because its practices are attached to the ethics in the field of academic publications.

Requirements of the Institutional Publishing Council

• The members of the Institutional Publishing Council must actively participate in the establishment and updating of editorial policy guidelines and in the communication and dissemination strategies of "La Universidad" Journal.


The members of the Institutional Publishing Council must uphold transparency across all editorial processes to ensure the rigor and scientific merit of the publications.


• The members of the Editorial Board must ensure the principle of honesty for the publication of articles, essays and book reviews based on the scientific merit of the contents, guaranteeing non-discrimination based on gender, race, religion, sexual orientation, political opinion, ethical origin and nationality.

The members of the Editorial Board must promote among the national and international academic community, the submission of papers for publication in the journal "La Universidad".

Requirements of the editors

• Guarantee the quality of the texts published and promote their academic and scientific standards.


• Respect the time established for refereeing, revision and layout of the texts in order to comply with the periodicity of the journal.


Guarantee adherence to the journal’s publication guidelines and editorial policies, and verify the originality and topical relevance.


• Ensure the confidentiality of the articles and their evaluation process.


• Ensure the publication and dissemination of the journal through various media such as repositories and social networks, among others.


• Inform the author about the stage of the editorial process in which the submitted text is and encourage good communication with the authors.


• Evaluate the texts and their intellectual content without distinction of race, gender, nationality, religious beliefs, among others.


• The editor will make impartial and objective decisions to ensure a fair, equitable and appropriate peer review process.


• Editors must guarantee the use of tools to detect plagiarism and if any plagiarism is found, it must be reported immediately to the Editorial Board.

 

Requirements for proofreaders

• Proofreaders must be professional writers, specialists in the areas of linguistics, grammar, morphology, syntax, style correction, textual typology, pragmatics, semantics, among others.


• Proofreaders must provide support to authors to improve the quality of the texts to be published. Their treatment of the author at all times should be respectful, concise and clear in their observations.


• Proofreaders must be committed to reviewing texts in a conscientious and professional manner, in order to ensure the best and highest standards of editing.


• Proofreaders should base their observations on concrete rules of linguistics, grammar, morphology, syntax, style correction, textual typology, pragmatics and semantics. Thus, proofreading should be objective and impartial.


• Proofreaders must be expeditious in relation to the time devoted to proofreading texts, according to their length and complexity, so that their review and correction does not delay the work of other members of the editorial team.


• Proofreaders must maintain discretion and confidentiality of the texts before, during and after the editing process.


• Proofreaders must not use assigned materials for personal gain or to filter such information.

 

Requirements for authors

• When submitting articles, authors must declare, through a sworn letter, the originality of their manuscript and that they accept the publication guidelines of the journal La Universidad. Also, that they agree with the procedure for the selection and editing of articles, essays and book reviews established by the journal.


• Authors who choose to publish their texts in the journal should refrain from sending them to other journals, in order to avoid duplicity in the publication of such texts.


• The texts must be original and unpublished, in other words, they must not have been published in whole or in part in Spanish or any other language in different scientific journals.


• Each author must register his/her text under Creative Commons, under the CC BY NC SA 4.0 combination.


• Each author must register his/her ORCID, RCID, ScopusID, ResearcherID number, among others, in order to avoid errors and confusion in the names of the authors when identifying their scientific production and to be able to distinguish them clearly.


• Authors should recognize the primary, secondary and tertiary sources of the texts they use for the writing of their articles, essays and book reviews, in order to avoid plagiarism. The citation manuals that authors may use are subject to the branch of study to which their scientific research belongs.


• Authors must respect the intellectual property of the materials they have used in their research. For example, if images, tables, maps, diagrams, etc. are used, they must, in the first instance, have authorization to use these resources and in the second instance place a footnote at the bottom of each element with the information of the origin of the same and in this way protect the copyright.


• Authors should name their collaborators in each of their texts, since, although it is true that the collaborators are not the authors of the documents, they have contributed to the publication of these materials.


Authors must promptly report any errors identified in the editing or layout of their manuscripts and contact the editorial team responsible for the journal.
Authors should take into account the observations and suggestions made by the editor and proofreader.


• Authors must take responsibility for their research, first, by making an exhaustive revision and correction of the texts they have sent to the journal for publication, and second, they must assume responsibility for the content presented in their research, in order to make a disclaimer of responsibility to "La Universidad" Journal.
