Article review process

Manuscripts submitted for publication in the journal La Universidad will be officially registered upon receipt. The editorial review process begins preliminarily after the Editor-in-Chief receives the manuscript, who assigns it to peer reviewers to validate the scientific content of the text. After this step, the Deputy Editor performs his review with the validation made by the peer reviewers, then the manuscript is revised and corrected so that it can then be formatted and prepared for publication.

It should be noted that not all manuscripts are accepted, some are rejected for non-compliance with the guidelines of the Manual of Style for publication in the journal La Universidad. In the case of accepted texts, some present major or minor corrections that must be overcome by the authors. Another important fact that should be clarified is the time that this editorial process takes. Each of the subjects involved has one week to work on the text, except for the peer review, which takes 4 weeks. This process takes a total of 8 weeks. The purpose of all this management is to verify that the manuscripts comply with the publication requirements, which are articulated as follows:

  • Form and content: the orthotypographic requirements contained in the Style Manual for publication in the journal La Universidad will be reviewed. In addition, the content of the text must be of high quality and scientific innovation.
  • Academic writing: the coherence and cohesion of the scientific discourse of the manuscript will be reviewed.
  • Originality: unpublished texts, that is, texts that have not been published in other journals or repositories, will be considered for publication.
  • Textual typologies and citation manuals: manuscripts will be examined to ensure that they contain the appropriate structure for each of the types of texts published in the journal La Universidad, which are articles, essays and scientific reviews.

1. The author submits the manuscript

The Editor receives the manuscript and issues the first evaluation and sends it to the Editorial Board if the manuscript is potentially publishable.

3. The Editorial Board gives its approval

4. The Editor in charge sends the manuscript to the reviewers he/she considers appropriate and with the relevant knowledge to review the article. The number of reviewers will depend on the type of study.

5. Peer review, they will critically evaluate the manuscript and issue a value judgment (Approve, Approve with observations and Fail). In addition, they may give suggestions to improve the quality of the article. The review is required to be as exhaustive and objective as possible. Download here the guide for reviewers

6. The final version of the manuscript is double-checked for grammar, style and references. Before publication, in all cases the author will receive the typeset proofs of his/her article for final approval.
The process for all articles is governed by the best practices reported by COPE https://publicationethics.org/core-practices.

7. The name of the peer reviewers who evaluate each published article will be placed in the table of contents of each published issue of the journal.
