Abstract

The University of El Salvador was founded on February 16, 1841, a date that coincides with the declaration of the Salvadoran State. Since its constitution, the Alma Mater has resisted the country's historical gale, always remaining the first and only public university committed to science and culture. As a sign of its commitment to the generation and dissemination of knowledge, its first scientific-sociocultural organ was born, a magazine called "La Universidad", founded in 1875. Our magazine began the Salvadoran editorial work, establishing itself as the first editorial product of the University of El Salvador, the country and the region. It is necessary to mention that our magazine has 149 years of history. Since that date, the magazine "La Universidad" becomes the symbol of the editorial work of the University of El Salvador, with flagship publications by authors such as Esteban Castro, Santiago I. Barberena, Francisco Gavidia, Alberto Masferrer, Sarbelio Navarrete, Napoleón Rodríguez Ruiz, Alberto Rivas Bonilla, Hugo Lindo, Miguel Ángel Asturias and Matilde Elena López, among others. Unfortunately, the magazine's archive is not complete, however, to date there are around 2,000 scientific articles published. Currently, the management (2023-2027) of the Rector, MSc. Juan Rosa Quintanilla Quintanilla has promoted academic and research development with the formulation of lines of action and the will to ratify the commitment of the University of El Salvador in the generation of scientific knowledge; This includes the rescue of the periodical publication of the magazine "La Universidad", which was interrupted on several occasions due to events beyond the control of this university. The University Editorial and Printing team has coordinated efforts to achieve the full realization of the Rector's objectives in editorial matters, achieving historic numbers in publications and promoting the scientific-literary figure of the University Press, to raise awareness in the academic community the desire to publish their work in our magazine "La Universidad".
