Birth of the Republic of Kosovo in the International System: the self-proclaimed independent territory

After the dismemberment of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia and the definitive dissolution of its successor: Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (State Union of Serbia and Montenegro) in 1991 and 2006 respectively, six States were constituted, which did not achieve international recognition as immediately, but gradually; At the same time, it set the tone for other territories to internally discuss and take action in order to change their legal status, Kosovo being an emblematic case, since in 2008 it unilaterally promoted its self-proclamation as an independent country hand in
hand with the Legislative Body. However, it has not consolidated its role in the international system, mainly due to the reluctance of the Republic of Serbia to be considered sovereign, due to historical and political reasons, causing a division among interstate actors in supporting its cause, where even

Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to analyze the status of the Republic of Kosovo in the international system, starting with a study of its autonomy acquired during the unified Slavic State until the act of declaration, where
it is compared with international law the feasibility of their claims, and how this has influenced the behavior of States regarding this issue; for this reason, its development is essential, in order to understand the current situation and dynamics of the conflict, which is addressed below.
